Monuments Men
The Monuments Men were a group of about 345 men and women from thirteen nations, most of them were volunteers for service in the newly created MFAA section during World War II. Many had experience as museum directors, curators, art historians, artists, architects, educators, and any type of artistic ability. They had one simple task that they succeeded at, to protect and retrieve lost treasures stolen by Hitler and the Nazis.
Many members of the Monuments Men became directors of some of the greatest art museums in history. With this success, together, they rescued more than five million works of art during World War II. The Monuments Men were some of the most respected group of people in history, that they decided to make a movie based on them and their accomplishments.
